Read on and be sure to add your favourite movie in the comments section.

English Vinglish

Sridevi makes an amazing comeback as Shashi Godbole in English Vinglish, directed by Gauri Shinde. She is effortlessly charming and wins us over in her tryst to learn English and gain her husband's and daughter's respect. She enrolls for an English learning course for 4 weeks , when she goes for her Niece's wedding in New York. The movie thrives on its plot and simplicity and the climax makes us all a bit gooey and emotional.

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

'Bade Bade Deshonmain, aise chote chote baatein hoti rehti hai' . I'm sure many guys have used this dialogue atleast once in their lives ( Or atleast the ones around me). This was the most successful and loved film ever.  It was the perfect casting with the King of Bollywood - Shahrukh Khan and the then Queen Bee - Kajol. Their on-screen Chemistry created such magic that the movie ran for a whopping 1000 weeks. Who can forget , Amrish Puri's "almost about to pop eyes" , Farida jalal's maternal love, mandira bedi before noodle straps , and of course those amazing songs shot beautifully over picturesque locales.

Barfi

Barfi is a beautiful love story set against the backdrop of disabilities. Its a movie with the right amount of Humor, Drama , action and Love. Ranbir kapoor essays the most lovely character yet ,of a deaf and mute person called Barfi Johnson. He is famous for his notorious antics. He meets Shruti (Illeana D'cruz) and is smitten by her, she falls in love with him as well, however her mother dissuades her and she marries her fiance.

Barfi kidnaps his autistic childhood friend and wealthy heiress Jhilmil ( played beautifully and convincingly by Priyanka chopra) , to ask for ransom as to aid his father's treatment . One thing leads to another and Barfi and Jhilmil become inseparable. Its a beautiful love story of barfi and jhilmil, and its worth watching if you haven't already

Kuch Kuch Hota hai

"Kuch Kuch hota hai Anjali, tum nahi Samjogi" uff, who can ever forget the look in Rahul's face when he said that. Another magic from one of the best on-screen couple ever - Kajol and Shahrukh khan. This movie revolves around a love story between friends Rahul and Anjali, who are best friends from college. Rahul gets smitten by new entrant in college Tina Malhotra , played by Rani Mukherjee. The movie revolves around Rahul and Anjali and the situations that unfold in getting them together again.

Jab we met

Post Jab we Met, many girls all over pretended to act like the fun loving and outspoken Geet, beautifully acted by Kareena Kapoor. Jab we Met was basically "opposites attract" in living picture. Geet an outspoken , fun loving individual meets Aditya Kashyap played by Shahid Kapoor. She adds "punjabi tadka"to his life , and how. The movie is another Love story, with beautiful songs and fast paced screen play. it doesn't get boring even once (not even after the 10th time)

Dil Chahta hai

Dil Chahta Hai, or DCH was the first of the "coming age" "new gen" movies. Directed by Farhan Akhtar , it starred Aamir Khan, Saif Ali khan, Akshaye Khanna, Priety Zinta, Dimple kapadia, and sonali Kulkarni in lead roles. The movie pans the life of three friends from college, girl friends, road trips, marriage etc. It was a bold movie for its time. Watch it for funny pants worn by the male actors in "Koi Kahe" (Yes we have evolved). This movie was a sort of cult movie with every guy sporting Aamir khan style goti (Beard) as it was then called.

Rang de Basanti

Set against the background of Patriotism, Rang De Basanti was a shout out to the younger generation to stand up and voice your opinion. The story is about a British documentary filmmaker who is determined to make a film on Indian freedom fighters based on diary entries by her grandfather, a former officer of the British Indian Army. Upon arriving in India, she asks a group of five young men to act in her film. The Five comprise of Aamir khan, Kunal Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Siddharth and Atul Kulkarni. Soha Ali khan essays the role of Madhavans love interest in the movie. The movie gears ahead after Madhavan's is killed in an air crash and when the officials close the case blaming Madhavan. The movie has Goose Bump moments and also helps us to get an insight in History.

A Wednesday

Neeraj Pandey is a director who is known to give you an edge of seat thrillers. He does that with A Wednesday. The movie is set between 2pm -6pm on a Wednesday and chronicles the life of an ordinary citizen who is tired of the governments promises of justice and takes it on his shoulders to get justice. Anupam Kher plays the role of the about to retire Police commissioner and Naseeruddin Shah plays a commoner out for justice. One beautiful bit is that Naseerudins character isn't named in the movie as , every name is simultaneously attached to religion. The movie is fast paced and very well directed. Its definitely a must watch.

Andaz Apna apna

Andaz Apna Apna is a movie which opened to little success and then by word of mouth ran into becoming one of those Cult movies. Directed By Raj Kumar Santoshi , it stars Aamir Khan , Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon and Karishma Kapoor in lead roles. The movie is the male protagonists attempt to land the hand of the heiress. Its a movie of mistaken identities, love and as always beating up the bad guy. Dialogues from the movie like "Crime Master Gogo" have been endlessly repeated. Its definitely a Must watch.

Kahaani

Vidya Balan takes on her role with power in Kahaani. We immediately empathize with her character of a pregnant woman in search of her husband in an unknown city. Her performance leaves you in awe of an actor who effortlessly 'waddles ' her way through her role. Sujoy Ghosh's script and direction don't have any 'pregnant pauses'. It gives you those exact moments of dramatic high and shock value that a thriller rightfully demands.

I must add, it was a challenge to choose from the never ending archives of amazing movies. These are the first few that came to my mind with a few additions as my Family kept adding to more amazing movies and to which I would have had to move away from 10 to 50 instead . So that's my list in no particular order. Tell me what your favorites are!
